It is similar to what you would pay to rent a chair in someone's salon. They also usually give you a key to the building so that you service your clients at midnight if you want. These spaces usually come already fitted with salon equipment (chair, dryer, shampoo bowl), and will allow you to decorate them how you want. The space is in a building with other small spaces that are rented to other similar businesses (massage, make up, etc). For instance, there are places called "salon suites" or "salon studios" where you rent, by the week, your own personal salon space. Then, after you build up your clientele you can start to expand. Start small, without having lots of expenses and a high overhead. So you have to use ongoing marketing to grow your business. You can use Social Media, Print Media, Word of Mouth, Referrals, etc. You have to know how to market your business so that people are aware of what you offer, and there are so many ways to do this in this day and time. Erin, remember, no one can beat you being you! Your own unique qualities, if showcased properly, can be a calling card and draw customers. Having a steady flow of customers is about marketing and being unique. In order to lessen the fear factor, do your homework going in to the business. Never, ever let fear stop you from doing what you love. I'm glad that you love to do hair and are considering a business in this industry. ![]()
